The bat costume is the perfect idea for kids birthday parties or Halloween events. It´s also an ideal last-minute outfit as you barely need any special accessories for it.

The most important parts you should keep in mind when creating your bat costume  are the wide black wings as well as the large ears. With these you´ll represent the nocturnal animal at every event perfectly!

Accessories for your homemade Bat Costume

How to create your DIY Bat Costume – Step by step instructions

How to design the bat wings

For the wings use shimmery black satin or velvet. To get the right length/shape cut out a square and use your arm length as an indication for the width as well as half your arm length and your back length as the measurement for the length. Fold the square in half and cut out a quarter circle at the upper part for your head. Afterwards let both sides down and sew the sleeves. You are not really into sewing? No problem, you can also use textile glue. In the end you just need to cut out the typical bat wing shape – And done!

How to design the bat ears

Use a black hair-band and black felt for the basis of your bat ears. Fold the felt in the middle before you cut out the ear shape, so you can fold and glue/sew the ears around the hair-band. Before you attach both sides together, use a pipe cleaner to stabilize the bat ears from within. If you want to be more creative you can use purple fabric to design the inner parts of the ear. Use textile glue to attach these on the felt.

Further accessories to create a scary bat costume

Ideally you should dress up completely in black. Use for example black leggings, a black t-shirt, black shoes and potentially black gloves/mittens and a black mask. If you like, you can also find matching bat earrings which you can wear with your costume.

If you´d rather like to attend a party as an undercover vampire you can also purchase fake vampire teeth as well as artificial blood which you can spread around the corners of your mouth.
