Step by step instructions for your DIY Mummy Costume
Step1: The right mummy… ehm, clothing?
An absolute must for your mummy costume are the gauze bandages or strips of material. To get the authentic old look, soak these in black tea. If you´d like to go with the classic look then wrap your whole body with the bandages. The easier way although is to soak white clothing in black tea and then sew some bandages on the outfit. Of course you do not have to cover your whole body in bandages.
Modern mummies wear bandages around the arms and legs and wear a cool statement shirt. Female mummies can wear a short dress, prepared as suggested before and wear high boots with it. This way, you turn yourself into a hot mummy-lady. Whatever way you choose for your individual mummy costume, leave out the fingers and mouth so you can eat and drink at the party. Besides, make sure to divide your costume into the upper and lower part, so you can easily go to the washroom.
Step2: The hair – A wild look
If you decide to not wrap your hair in bandages, then tease your hair so it resembles a wild-look. The mummy has been dead since ages and did neither go to the hairdresser nor did she wash her hair. Use grey spray for hair to give it the right color.
Step3: Make-up – Stay pale
Use grey and white color to give your face an unnatural pale color and use black and grey tones around your eyes. Use contacts with a white iris to give your horror-look the perfect touch. Also use light make-up on your lips, as there is no blood flow since thousands of years in your body.
Additional tip – The correct posture
As a mummy you do not talk and walk slowly as well as slightly bend over. Morever, moaning is essential. How long do you think you can keep up the show? Find out!
